This Kinetic Art Installation Mesmerizes Everyone
Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics collaborated with twelve students from different countries around the world who attended a 10-day design workshop at the Architectural Association Visiting School, and created a kinetic sculpture called the “Liquid Shard”. This art installation is made up of holographic mylar and monofilament, stretching over 15,000 square feet across the Pershing Square in Los Angeles. Using 3-D computer modelling, the group attached thousands of metallic strips to high-tech fibre and bungee cords, creating this mesmerising piece of kinetic art work, resembling a cloud of ocean waves floating mid-air. These silver streamers would rise and fall depending on the speed of wind. Its elegant movements would definitely make you believe in “magic”.
